Registered Nurse Administrative Supervisor - Wednesday to Saturday (Day Shift)

General Summary of Duties:

The Nurse Administrative Supervisor provides supervision, training, scheduling, and administrative oversight of Nursing Care at all KMHS facilities, both outpatient and inpatient. The Nurse Administrative Supervisor assists the Director of Nursing in maintaining agency compliance with national standards of psychiatric nursing practice, contractual fidelity, Nursing Commission guidelines, and Washington State law. The Nurse Administrative Supervisor is responsible for hiring and mentoring new staff and providing performance reviews for direct supervisees.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Certified Nursing Assistants

Major Responsibilities/Tasks:
  1. Foster cooperative relationships with healthcare teams in various clinical settings through problem-solving, responding to team needs, and highly effective communication.
  2. Hire, train, coach, develop, evaluate with timely performance appraisals, discipline, and, if necessary, discharge direct supervisees. Comply with all agency personnel policies.
  3. In collaboration with the Director of Nursing, ensure that safety, ethical, and evidence-based practices are being utilized, giving the clients of KMHS an exceptional, trauma-informed healing experience.
  4. Inform the development of policy and procedure for the agency in areas of safety, medication practice, infectious disease control, and documentation.
  5. With the director of nursing, develop, revise and implement guidelines that maintain quality nursing standards and regulatory compliance regarding the following:
    • ordering, storing, and utilizing medications
    • equipment and other necessary nursing supplies
    • dispensing medications
    • 24/7 physical care responsibilities
    • Pharmaceutical and laboratory services and others as needed.
    • maximize safety standards while monitoring reimbursements and containing costs
  6. Communicate with the Director of Nursing regularly to ensure that all tasks are completed promptly. Have supervision with the Director of Nursing once per week to discuss pertinent information and foster exceptional professional relationships that will be exemplary to the nursing team.
  7. Support, encourage, and implement evidence-based nursing practices.
  8. Provide positive and encouraging leadership that will carry through in day-to-day decision-making from the management team.
  9. Oversee nursing staff schedule to support 24-hour services, PACT, and injection services.
  10. Participate in quality improvement through program reviews, audit responses, and incident reporting.
  11. Communicate positively and effectively with local health agencies and partner organizations, the Emergency Department, Salish Behavioral Health Organization, and other relevant external agencies to enhance the relationship and mission of KMHS with our community.
  12. Provide hands-on training and guidance to foster the leadership qualities in all supervisees to ensure competence in their role as registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, or certified nursing assistants. Monitor and document in-service training for all nursing staff.
  13. Assist in the scheduling and orientation of nursing students who utilize the departmentÂ's units as practicum sites. Collaborate with the nursing programÂ's instructor regarding scheduling, program description, and obtaining signed confidentiality statements.
  14. Attend 24/7 staff meetings, remain aware of interdepartmental issues and demonstrate knowledge and awareness of collaborative challenges.
  15. Monitor the quality of medical, pharmaceutical, and laboratory service services.
  16. Provide respect and dignity to all clients.
  17. Monitor the timeliness and quality of staff nursing documentation and technical performance.
  18. Assist staff with reporting blood-borne pathogen exposure, injury reporting, incident reporting, medication error reporting, and critical incident reporting in a timely and concise manner. Demonstrate a knowledge of correct procedure when called upon to assist.
  19. Maintain knowledge of proposed and current WISHA/OSHA regulations, coordinate and provide training for staff as required.
  20. Substitute for Director of Nursing as requested.
  21. Disclose limited client information as necessary to the position as trained by the Records Dept. Supervisor. Disclosures must adhere to HIPAA privacy and security standards and be logged in detail according to agency policy and procedures. Complete all required training and annual refreshers.
  22. May cover duties as a supervisor and a subordinate as needed.

Qualifications

WHAT YOULL BRING
  • Registered Nurse (RN) in Washington State.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 year experience inpatient psychiatric environment required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
