Paraprofessional - Madrona Day Treatment

Paraprofessional 28hrs/wk.

General Summary of Duties: The Paraprofessional provides ongoing supervision of and therapeutic support for consumers enrolled in the Day Treatment Program.

The Paraprofessional provides 1:1 assistance to students with mild to severe behavioral problems, including students who may be physically and verbally aggressive, enrolled in the Day Treatment Program, and participates as a milieu treatment team member.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Major Responsibilities/Tasks:
  • Assist other program staff in providing a positive, structured, and therapeutic milieu in which the students' emotional, developmental, and educational needs can be met. Work closely with other team members to maintain an aesthetically pleasing and therapeutic environment.
  • Provide direct observation of students within the milieu. Participate in 1:1 intervention in order to encourage the student's compliance with program expectations, and to identify and process barriers to successful completion of program expectations. Assist students in dealing with conflict, expressing themselves in appropriate ways, and improving their behavior.
  • Provide immediate, therapeutic crisis interventions as necessary.
  • Work with the team to implement behavioral programs and intervention plans. Provide input into daily and weekly student summaries and level rating forms.
  • Ensure that all paperwork is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Support other school programs as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE: Entry level (1 year of prior experience working with children)

Possess and maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle report.

Valid Washington Food Handler card.

LICENSURE: Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration

Perthe RCW 28A.400.303, employees of contractors with school districts that "have regularly scheduled unsupervised access to children" are required to go through FBI fingerprinting.

Food Handler's Permit is required for Madrona, preferred for Sequoia Program and Restorative School.

Preferred Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, social services, or behavioral health field

EXPERIENCE: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)

Relevant experience working with clients with severe and persistent mental illness.

Experience working with Special Education population strongly.

Experience with milieu treatment along with educational or classroom management.

Educational or classroom management experience.

The capacity to work well with children and families.
