Facilities Landscaper

General Summary of Duties: The Facilities Assistant / Landscaper maintains buildings, vehicles, and equipment in good operating order and ensures that all grounds are kept in a presentable manner at all times.

The Facilities Assistant / Landscaper maintains the operations of KMHS in support of its stated mission and promotes the highest level of customer satisfaction and confidence to internal and external customers.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Major Responsibilities/Tasks:
  • Work independently and perform all work efficiently and organized with minimal supervision.
  • Daily monitoring of grounds and parking areas for litter, trash, and debris removal.
  • Perform landscaping maintenance. This includes but is not limited to cutting grass, edging around walks and flower beds, trimming of shrubs and trees, and applying fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. Additional responsibilities include planting and watering grass, flowers, shrubs and trees; removal of leaves, branches, and brush; and weeding flower beds and any other required areas.
  • Perform routine or periodic cleaning, maintenance, and repair tasks as needed to keep landscaping equipment in good operating condition.
  • Utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment. Maintain all applicable material safety data sheets and follow all chemical or pesticide labeling, mixing and use instructions and regulations.
  • Report all damage to equipment or facility, suspicious activity, security risks, or safety hazards promptly to supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Two years of landscaping or groundskeeping experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in proper grounds keeping and gardening techniques required, including knowledge of proper watering, fertilizing techniques, and pest management.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is required.
  • Be able to demonstrate the following skills: organizational skills, problem-solving orientation, effective communication, reporting skills, computer competences, and networking.

Mental/Physical Requirements:

  • The ability to function indoors in an office environment and outdoors engaged in physically active work.
  • Ambulatory ability to move to different work locations and bend, stoop, climb, and perform inspections.
  • The ability to wear various protective equipment, work in areas with extreme temperature variation, and work in cramped or uneven spaces.
  • Visual acuity to observe work sites, read written materials, blueprints, plans, and schematics.
  • Auditory ability to carry on conversations in person and over the phone, including projecting voice in noisy work settings.
  • May require the ability to lift from the floor, waist, or overhead objects up to 75 pounds occasionally.
