Data Specialist

General Summary of Duties: The Data Specialist collects, reviews, organizes, and analyzes data from KMHS electronic health record (EHR) system. The Data Specialist will review services to ensure all services meet KMHS data integrity, compliance, and quality standards. When applicable will work directly with other departments to assist with the submittal of encounterable and/or billable services as well as any required reporting submissions.

Major Responsibilities/Tasks:
  • Monitor data, prepare and submit files for billing, encounter, and state reporting to include various edits and corrections of data.
  • Identify and facilitate long-term resolution of data errors, work with all levels of staff, and educate.
  • Perform audits of data and facilitate corrective measures as indicated, working with the staff of all levels.
  • Recommend data collection and quality improvements.
  • Maintain knowledge of IS-supported software and data requirements.
  • May be expected to code/enter data. Knowledge of and/or ability to research proper medical coding and documentation requirements (CPT and HCPCS coding).
  • Work with Senior Data Specialist to improve data flow and training opportunities related to data quality.

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)

Preferred Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Associates Degree in a related field.

EXPERIENCE: Intermediate (minimum 3 years of job-related experience)

Familiarity with (or ability to learn) billing formats and requirements (HIPAA 837, 834, HCFA, UB04, etc.). Demonstrated experience in a multi-software environment, Windows operating systems and MS Office.
